PIUMA Minimalist Fountain Pen - Ultem

Ultem is an engineered plastic also known as Polyetherimide (PEI). It is an amorphous plastic that offers high strength, excellent chemical resistance with a high service temperature. It has a distinct amber-to-transparent color. It is commonly used in autoclave applications, high voltage circuit breaker components, and jet engine components. In the fountain pen world, it is used because of its attractive amber color and excellent mechanical properties. It is stronger than acrylic and other resins and excellent for precision machining.

PIUMA is an investigation of liberating a fountain pen from all unnecessary components and ornaments. PIUMA is machined out of solid blocks of titanium, brass, and aluminum using the latest CNC technology. In order to provide an incredibly smooth writing experience, PIUMA is also equipped with the finest German-made nibs.

The design has been refined with the utmost attention to detail. Each component has been meticulously designed taking into consideration its function and aesthetic. The interchangeable nib system screws inside the pen grip and resides a couple of millimeters in to create a unibody appearance. The cap threads are wider and allow a fast opening and closing of the pen. In addition, a millimetric-rounded gap defines the connection between the cap and the body.

PIUMA borrows its name from the same Italian word, which means feather. It pays homage to the simplicity of the first pens made from bird feathers. It is a writing instrument to be used for a lifetime and enjoyed by generations - a combination of the highest manufacturing quality and timeless design.

Pens accept all standard international ink cartridges, which are widely available worldwide. Pens come equipped with a Schmidt ink converter for bottled ink. The pens have also been designed for eye-dropping capabilities. The body threads have been carefully calibrated to stop the ink flow. In addition, we incorporated an o-ring seal that prevents any potential leakage. Silicone grease is applied during assembly to the nib unit threads and body threads. The pen comes with a Schmidt ink converter and one black ink cartridge.

The pen comes equipped with a large #6 black steel nib made in Germany by Peter Bock. These nibs have been regarded as one of the best performing nibs in the business.
