This special edition is handcrafted in Japan using the centuries-old art of Urushi lacquering. Each pen is made from premium Nikko Ebonite and meticulously finished with multiple layers of natural Urushi lacquer over the course of several months.
Ebonite is a durable, hard rubber produced by vulcanizing natural rubber with sulfur. Urushi is a traditional Japanese lacquer derived from the sap of the lacquer tree, prized for its exceptional depth, luster, and durability.
The pens feature the traditional Kuro Tame-nuri finish, a technique in which multiple layers of rich vermilion lacquer are applied beneath translucent layers of black Urushi. This intricate process creates a deep, glossy black surface with subtle hints of vermilion emerging along the edges and threads, revealing the remarkable depth and complexity of the finish.
Each pen requires several months to complete, as every layer of Urushi must be carefully applied and allowed to cure for several days under controlled temperature and humidity conditions. The result is a unique writing instrument that embodies the precision, patience, and artistry of traditional Japanese craftsmanship.
The fountain pen is equipped with premium Bock nibs, precision-manufactured in Germany. Both the gold-plated stainless steel and solid 14K gold nib options are crafted by Bock, a renowned German nib manufacturer known for its exceptional quality and craftsmanship.
The pen boxes are handmade in Japan from local Paulownia wood and fire-stamped using a traditional brass iron.
The pen is compatible with all standard international ink cartridges, which are widely available worldwide. Understanding that fountain pen enthusiasts appreciate the freedom to explore a wide variety of inks, we have also designed the pen to support eyedropper filling, allowing ink to be stored directly inside the barrel for increased capacity.
The barrel threads have been precisely engineered for this purpose, and an integrated O-ring provides an additional seal to help prevent leakage. When using the pen as an eyedropper, silicone grease must be applied to both the nib unit threads and the barrel section threads to ensure a proper seal.
For added versatility, each pen also includes a Schmidt ink converter, offering three convenient filling options: standard international cartridges, converter filling, and eyedropper filling.
